An enthusiastic, passionate, dedicated teacher with over 15 years of experience, Sarah Dudas maintains a private violin studio out of her home in Southeast Baltimore in addition to teaching group instruction at schools in surrounding counties. Current and past appointments include teaching positions at The Academy of Fine Arts in Gaithersburg, MD, The Odyssey School in Stevenson, MD, Greenspring Montessori School in Lutherville-Timonium, MD, and Wolfe Street Academy in Baltimore City. Ms. Dudas’s students regularly participate and receive honors in the ASTACAP (American String Teacher Certificate of Acheivement Program) and the RCMDP (Royal Conservatory Music Development Program ), and have received placements in area youth orchestras such as MCYO (Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras) and PVYO (Potomac Valley Youth Orchestras.)
Sarah’s methodology for beginners is Suzuki-based, with emphases on listening and aural development, parental involvement, repetition and review, goal-setting, and performance. For additional information on the Suzuki method, please visit: www.http://suzukiassociation.org/teachers/twinkler/. For intermediate to advanced violin students, her method encompasses broader elements of more traditional pedagogy (note: while the term “traditional” may have multiple meanings depending on a teacher’s own pedagogical background and training, it may be loosely defined as including the study of scales, technical exercises and etudes, and more advanced repertoire).
In addition to teaching, Sarah freelances throughout the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area, appearing with such ensembles as the Maryland Symphony, the Annapolis Symphony, the Delaware Symphony and Opera, the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She participates annually in the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene under the baton of Helmuth Rilling and is a former member of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera. Originally from from Texas, Sarah has had the opportunities to live and work in a variety of US cities and musical contexts, including Dallas, Boston, Chattanooga, and Los Angeles. In her spare time she enjoys reading and cooking.
