Greetings from Ethiopia
Posted February 9, 2009 by Paul Warren | Discuss this entryGreetings from Ethiopia, the land of thirteen months of sunshine! Yes, the Ethiopian calendar actually has thirteen months (it is also the year 2001 on their calendar) but not all of them are sunny. Fortunately for us it is beautiful here right now – clear-blue skies and about 75 degrees. We arrived in Addis Saturday evening around 9:00pm local time and sailed through immigration and customs without any problems. The airline did lose one bag (it got left in Washington, D.C. somehow) but it has been found and will be here tomorrow.
We had a good first day. We attended the Karano Bethel Kale Heywot (New Life) Church. I was invited to bring greetings on behalf of the team and our home churches during the service and while we didn’t understand much it was an encouraging time.
We had a nice lunch at Family Restaurant with the Andy, Bev and Kit Warren, Derek Armstrong, Jon & Jessica White and their children and Brian March, all whom are serving with MTW here in Addis. We came back to the guesthouse and rested and spent time organizing all of the supplies that we brought with us. The MTW staff came over for dinner and Andy gave us a history of the project and we had an opportunity for questions and answers.
Most everyone has slept well with some jet lag here and there. A couple of folks are a little under the weather but are being doctored well and should be at full strength soon. This morning we had devotions with the entire project staff and then we went out in the community for home visits. That is where we are right now. Tonight I will try and get someone to share his or her perspective of this first day. I will also try and upload some photos tomorrow as well. We want to thank you all for your love and support and for keeping us in your prayers.
