The February blizzards took a substantial toll on the church building, but the hard work of some church members prevented even worse damage.

You may have noticed the recently built fence and newly installed walkway on the church’s grass lot. Both of these improvements were made possible with funding from a Healthy Neighborhoods grant. Our friends at the Southeast Community Development Corporation were instrumental in helping Abbott to secure the grants, and we are grateful for their assistance, especially that of Chris Ryer and Kari Snyder.

During the storms, snow piled up on the gymnasium roof and blocked off two of its drains. As the snow melted, it found its way down the gym wall, covered the floor with water, and then continued down the walls in Rooms 7 and 8. It damaged the wall, the floor, several pairs of curtains, took out part of the new ceiling , ruined the piano and a wooden bookcase filled with Bibles and hymnals. Fortunately, some men from the church were able to clear the drains and prevent the water from causing more damage.

At the congregational meeting we asked members for feedback on our worship time and received a number of helpful responses. In light of these, the Session has decided, beginning June 14th, to move the start of our worship service to 10:45 A.M. We hope that this change will provide us with the time and environment that will encourage and facilitate focused worship. Because Sunday morning is the only time we are all together as a church family, it is important that we take the opportunity to meet visitors and greet one another and also to communicate upcoming activities and events to the entire church. This earlier start time will allow us to do this without infringing on any of the elements of our worship which we feel are so crucial.

Sunday morning is such an important time for each of us as children of God. I want to encourage each of you to prioritize your day around worship. Make an extra effort to arrive on time and be prepared to worship God with all your heart. God will be glorified and you will be blessed.

I look forward to seeing you all in worship.

Pastor Paul Warren

Dear friends and family,

It is 4:30 Friday afternoon in Addis Ababa. We have had an amazing
first week of work here with the project. We have visited many
beneficiaries in their homes and have been overwhelmed by the
hospitality and generosity that has been shown to us.

We have had three days of clinics in which we have cared for hundreds
of patients – both beneficiaries and neighbors of the project.

This afternoon one of the project support groups presented the team
with a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

Jamison and I have had the opportunity to lead numerous small group
sessions with beneficiaries where we have shared life stories,
answered questions, studied Scripture and prayed for one another.
These have been tremendously encouraging times to see God’s mighty
power at work in individual lives through the work of the project.

There are several more updates being written by different team members
that we will try and post on Monday. We have VERY limited internet
access and the connection has been very sporadic. We leave EARLY
(4:30 AM local time) tomorrow for an overnight trip to Lalibela.
There will be many more stories to tell when we return.

We give thanks and praise to God that after a few bouts of sickness
everyone is feeling very well now. Pray that we would continue in
good health and have the strength to do the work to which we have been
called.

God is at work here in amazing ways. We look forward to sharing with
you in more detail soon.

For the team,

-Paul
